  • SUNOMI64

Vectorian Giotto isn’t open source, it’s free but proprietary.

    • prokoudine

Neither is Plastic Animation Paper :)

      • SUNOMI64

I know that, but the article says Vectorian Giotto is open source.

      • Tribal Bunnies AJ Jamaa

Would that mean you can’t post it online, like on youtube? ^^’

        • prokoudine

I have no foggiest idea what you meant with that question.

          • Seth Allen Macias

i think they meant if they used one of those programs to make something, would they need to get permission to use it someplace online.

        • Curso Animator

Guys, in my knowledge, Open Source means that the program code is open and anyone can use it to program as they like it. E.g. Linux is an open source os, so anyone can make there own version, like Ubuntu e so. Like Android too. It´s not about the professional use of it, for what I know, at least. For that information, better consult the “about the software”. But in my experience, if it´s a freeware, most of them can be used for professional purposes! :)

Sorry guys for the mistake and thank you for pointing it out.
    I have fixed it.

    • SUNOMI64

No need to be sorry, everyone makes mistakes. :)
      Thanks for fixing it.

  • rafepurnell

Need to update this list since the release of OpenToonz

  • Retardo Dutertard

Pencil2D is nice, but really buggy. I’ve been looking for a replacement until Pencil2D fixes the bugs and this really helped. Thanks! Now I can make anti-Duterte Animated Propaganda!

  • Myhos Lynx

can anyone give me an opinion on Synfig Studio? I really want to start making anime, but i dont know which software would be best for it…

    • caleb lee

I looked at some of the featured videos and I think if you’re very advanced it would be a great choice. Not sure though because I’ve never tried it myself.

    • Canary animations

It’s not for frame-by-frame animation, but for cut-out, if you want to animate frame-by-frame get PAP or Vectorian giotto.

  • Canary animations

In my opinion, Plastic Animation Paper is the best. pencil 2d is good, but it isn’t very stable. synfig is only for cut out animation and could be hard. vetorian giotto is a good program, but still, has limitations.
PAP can be old, but it is easy to learn and very impressive!
P.S. I think OpenToonz has to be on the list.
